Scoring for Timed Races Explained

Youth 170/250 Race ‘Rolling Start’ Explained:

The number one goal is to keep racing 100% fair and equal for all participants, while at the same time creating a safe separation gap between starting waves.

  • All race vehicles will be led around the track on a parade lap, two cars wide.
  • We will stop to regroup at the first turn, before the start straight away.
  • To start the race, our lead pace car will roll the racers around the first turn, then pull off the track.
  • A flagman will be standing underneath the timing gate to wave the green flag to start the race.

It is important to understand that for the Youth 170 & 250 races, the race clock for each racer begins when he/she crosses the start gate, not when the green flag is dropped on the lead vehicle.  In other words, time for the racer last in line will begin when he/she crosses the start gate, not when the first racer out front crosses the start gate.

The race will be checker flagged when the last racer hits his/her 25 minute mark.  Again, any laps crossed after your clock expires will not be counted and will not affect your race time.  If you break after your clock expires, this will not count against you.

Timed Races with Start Rows:

The number one goal is to keep racing 100% fair and equal for all participants, while at the same time creating a safe separation gap between starting waves.

Timed races (duration) will start classes in multiple rows.  When the green flag drops for each row, the race clock will then start for that row only.  Once the race clock expires for your row, your race will be complete the next time you cross the finish line.

It is important to understand that we will not throw the checkered flag until the race clock is completed for the last row that started.   This means that if you start in the first row, you may actually run an extra few minutes while waiting for the final row to complete their race.

Any laps crossed after your clock expires will not be counted and will not affect your race time. If you break after your clock expires, this will not count against you.

For example, in a 60 minute race:

Row 1 starts at 9:00:00
Row 2 starts at 9:00:30
Row 3 starts at 9:01:00
Row 4 starts at 9:01:30.

Row 1’s race time stopped and will be scored from 10:00:00.
Row 2’s race time stopped and will be scored from 10:00:30.
Row 3’s race time stopped and will be scored from 10:01:00.
Row 4’s race time stopped and will be scored from 10:01:30.

Checkered flag falls for EVERYONE at 10:0130.

However, the racers in row 1, row 2 and row 3 may get extra time on course that does not count.

We are simply keeping everyone on track to avoid confusion of some racer getting the checkered flag and others not, and also for safety so we do not have racers cutting in front of other cars to pull off the track.
