Republic Services will serve as the presenting sponsor of the 5th Annual Mint 400 Desert Cleanup in 2022, Mint 400 officials announced today. On Saturday, March 5, hundreds of volunteers will head to Jean, Nevada to clean up the race area that will be used for the Great American Off-Road Race the following weekend. Republic Services will also be on hand throughout the event providing solid waste collection services at both the Mint 400 Off-Road Festival on Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas and at the start-finish line in Primm. “We’re grateful to Republic Services for partnering with us once again to present the 5th Annual Mint 400 Desert Cleanup this year,” said Mint 400 CEO Matt Martelli. “Keeping the desert clean is a crucial part of the countless efforts that are required behind the scenes to make an event like the Mint 400 happen, and we’ve collected nearly a quarter of a million pounds of trash over the past half decade at these events. Republic Services’ support as we head to Jean is indispensable as we work to keep the desert clean and usable for all.”
“Republic Services is a proud supporter of The Mint 400,” said Jeremy Walters, Community Relations Manager, Republic Services. “Through our partnership we have been able to provide a forum for volunteers to make a difference in the Mojave Desert. Removing nearly 250,000 pounds of waste from some of the toughest terrain in Southern Nevada is no small feat. As a leader in the Environmental Services Industry, we understand how important it is to support the communities that we live and work in. We are truly grateful to work alongside so many passionate volunteers and The Mint 400.”
In 2017, Republic Services partnered with The Mint 400 for their inaugural “Dash For Trash” event. Volunteers removed 14.54 tons of waste from the Nevada desert in the Jean area, but the team identified more work to be done. Since then, The Mint 400 Desert Clean Up presented by Republic Services has removed nearly 125 tons (250,000lbs!) from the Nevada Desert.
This March, the group hopes to grow these numbers substantially. The Mint 400 Desert Clean-Up presented by Republic Services will be focused around the Jean OHV area – land that is not only used for The Mint 400 race course, but also for numerous races throughout the year spanning multiple off-road organizations. The Mint 400 & Republic Services would like to invite all off-road enthusiasts and members of the Las Vegas community to spend a day in the dirt, cleaning up our race course and OHV areas.

The Mint 400 has held the title of the toughest, most spectacular off-road race in North America since 1968 when it was first run. Initially, the race was a public relations event promoting the Mint Hotel’s annual deer hunt, but what started out as a hotel promotion soon grew into a legitimate desert race. Since its 2008 revival, “The Great American Off-Road Race” has only gotten bigger and more prestigious, and deeper fields every year only make it tougher to win.
This year’s BFGoodrich Tires Mint 400 will take place from March 9-13 in Las Vegas. More information on the event for racers and spectators is available at TheMint400.com, or follow the event on Facebook and Instagram.
